Wedding Expos can be overwhelming, but they are a fantastic opportunity for you to meet service providers face to face and get some great ideas for your wedding in just a few hours.
Here are five easy steps to turn all the bags, brochures & business cards into a solid foundation for your wedding plans.
1 You need some quiet space
Find some quiet time when you won’t be disturbed. You will need a big area on the floor or table, some kind of excercise book, glue, and a glass of wine.
2. Sorting Resources from Advertising
All your goodies from the Wedding Expo basically come down to two things, Resources & Advertising. You want to sort everything into these two piles.
While really, everything you will receive at the Wedding Expo is essentially advertising, for the purpose of this excercise, we mean everything promoting a business, ie; business cards, brochures, contact details, quotes etc. Gather up all of these and put them in your first pile.
In your second pile you want anything that is providing information that will help you with your planning. For example, this article, we would categorise as a resource. Yes, we are hoping that you will like our article and continue to browse our website, but essentially it is just information to assist you with planning your wedding. In this categories we would include; Magazines, Articles, DVDs etc. Put these in your second pile, which we will put aside for now.
3. Your Planner
Pull out your ‘Advertising’ pile. Start by sorting it all into individual services, ie; photographers, florists, cake decorators, entertainment etc. If you have an excercise book, start a page for each of these and glue in your business cards & brochures in their appropriate category.
If you leave an extra 3 pages blank, you can stick your quotes on these pages later.
Make sure you put notes next to the info from service providers you spoke to, whether you liked them, anything unique about them.
This way, even if your book gets put aside for 6 months, you don’t have to start from scratch, you will be able to see who you were drawn to or less interested in on the day.
Now your info is all sorted so you can easily go through and get quotes. Three quotes per service provider is generally a good number.
The easiest way (if you have access to the internet). Is to start with the providers with websites/email. You can use their online forms or email them to obtain a quote. This means you are minimising the calls you are trying to make in your lunch break at work.
Then you can move onto the people you need to call or visit.
Remember, unless your wedding is coming up fast, you don’t need to do it all at once, just pick a number and do some each day. For example, getting in touch with 3 people each day, means you only need to spend 5 minutes a day and you will be quite quickly ticking off tasks on your list.
By the time you get to the florists and other services you really need to visit to get your pricing together, it won’t be as overwhelming.
This is the cruisy bit, keep this pile in a box somewhere handy and where you can see it. When you find some quiet time, you can flick through the magazine or pop the DVD on. Don’t feel like you have to rush through any of your resources, take your time and enjoy the process.
Well that’s the 5 Simple Steps. Obviously, you have a lot more work ahead of you before the big day. But now at least you have quickly and easily sorted through all the paperwork from your Bridal Expo and can get on with the business of planning!
